An Investigation of Cosmic Passings, Capitalism, and the Reality of a Healing Journey
Kayla-Jane meets with Kait to talk about non-traditional healing structures, capitalism intersecting spirituality, and upcoming cosmic events.
It’s not that we are better than the universe, we are part of the universe. We are in the universe and the universe is in us.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson
The Journey Of Compassion and Guidance Begins
A ghoul, drawn to the intricate beauty of the darkness, witches and Halloween, Kait Fowlie has eternally been drawn to magic.
At 11, she was gifted her first tarot deck, but it wasn’t until she was in her Saturn return she found a letter she wrote to her future self. It read, “I hope you get into tarot reading. I have a deck now, but I don’t know all the cards. I hope you learn them though because I think it adds a certain kind of smartness to you.” This time capsule began to re-write the new pages of Kait’s life and career.
Things have become so full circle, the woman who gave her that first tarot deck just booked a reading with Kait (who is experiencing the force of her Jupiter return in Aries, and might I add that when she received the deck it also would have been a Jupiter in Aries moment? I got chills too.)
Kait has a touch of cosmic magic. Though astrology and tarot don’t need to go together, it enriches how she provides readings for others. She is a Pisces Sun, Virgo Moon, and Libra Rising; expansion, harmony, and curiosity run through her veins.
Astrology felt like a natural recollection of information that can guide others on their voyage and help them become self-aware. “To me, the essence of tarot and astrology is about understanding the language of compassion, open-mindedness; getting inside of your own perspective,” she says.
Kait has evolved her group and one-on-one offerings to include hypnosis.“I reached the point where I wanted something that I can do with my clients that feels deeply empowering. I love like holding and creating space for someone,” she says.
She studied under The Krasner Method of Hypnotherapy. This is not to be confused with stage hypnosis, which is done in front of an audience for strictly entertainment purposes.
However, when hypnosis is used in a clinical environment, it supports clients in limiting distractions of the mind, heightened suggestibility, increased awareness, and supporting access to the subconscious through imagination – all while having full control of their actions and being awake and aware of what is happening.
Hypnosis is an invitation to communicate with our unconscious mind and make magic. Shifts can happen in sessions that trickle down into our waking life.
“Erickson believed that each patient already has everything they need inside them to overcome obstacles. Hypnosis, for him, was about connecting a patient to their own inner resources. Their own truth within.” Source.
These modalities support more than individuals, it supports us on a societal level. To build a strong society, we must have strong individuals. Kait explains:
“When we give ourselves permission to take care of ourselves and have our own personal, rich experience of our minds and allow ourselves to be in those spaces where we accept our full self and be seen by a practitioner or healer, you become such a whole and strong person.
We do not have to rely on some top-down structure to make us better, I don't think it works like that. When we all do our individual work to understand what we believe is true and right for us. When we take the time to understand what we stand for, we can come together and create a stronger world.
For me, it all comes back to self-compassion and open mindedness, compassion, and knowing that we're not so different from each other. We need that those traits in order to heal ourselves, and to heal in society.”
Technology & Capitalism In The Age of Saturn in Aquarius
If you’ve been on any online space, you may have noticed an increase in conversation and resources for witchcraft, tarot, astrology, and any other promise to bring you to your best self.
Is this ease of access supportive of our quest for self-knowledge, or is being a sell-out the new goal for healers and coaches?
Kait and I explored the benefits of the ease of access to these tools. Growing up I only had my J-14 magazine telling me that yes, that boy in my science class was in love with me and good luck is coming, Sagittarius!
But today, kids growing up can understand their birth chart at a younger age, arguably finding support on who they are, and what cosmic components have contributed to their personality. I believe this information can be transformative and supportive. Kait discovered tarot through YouTube, and without digital access today, we would all be limited to our studies and teaching.
Kait explains, “I like the idea that someone can get into an area of life or discover something that leads them to connect more deeply with themself. It's a beautiful thing and I do want to see good people doing good work in spiritual realms get bigger platforms. But, I also want people to maintain their integrity and authenticity. It's a difficult thing, but I ultimately think that if the balance can be maintained, it is valuable.”
Excuse my Saturn in Aquarius moment, but technology can be beneficial when we choose to let it be supportive, and when we practice discernment. There is a delicate dance of what we are public and private within our spiritual practices and how they may be benefiting or harming humanity. Technology won't save us, but it can help us understand some of the components of life.
“It's really important that we take time to do things that we don't tell anyone about, and have parts of our life that we don't share or don't try to monetize,” she says.
The Societal Healing Addiction
Our society is constructed on progress and success. We are trained to climb ladders fastened with jolts of perfection. When we miss the mark, we feel shame.
As Brene Brown says, “Shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing we are flawed and therefore unworthy of acceptance and belonging.”
At what point, does this idea of being healed to have a meaningful life interrupt our capacity to live our lives? Is it when we finish our healing journey that we can finally start living and being ourselves?
“You already are your best self; you're already there. The future is now. Sometimes, it can be easy to fall into the trap of using being on a healing journey or something that we're healing from as an excuse. But we're all on our own healing journey and at the end of the day, we're all already just our best selves. There's no wrong or right way to be your best self. It's about just feeling like you're yourself, and maybe it's about self-acceptance,” Kait declares.
She explains that her definition of self-acceptance is different for everyone. I like this discovery because it can feel like we need to do x to feel y and achieve z. I'll argue that capitalism set these false promises on our self-worth and identity. We define the best version of ourselves, by choice.
“For me, self-worth comes from being proud of myself,” Kait says. “It comes from me doing esteem-able and like, just doing my best. And feeling the fear and doing it anyway. And getting out of my own way and like calling bullshit on my ego and aligning my actions with my values.”
As a society, perhaps we can all agree on one thing – we want to be happy. But that idea of happiness doesn’t need to be the same for everyone. Just because your journey doesn’t look like someone else's, you do not have to feel shame.
Cosmic Showcases To Watch Out For
As we shift internally, many of us look to the cosmos for communication about where we can go, what’s happening, and how we can use transits to support us moving forward. This conversation can reveal patterns of old beliefs and guide us to create a new path among the galaxies while staying grounded on our home planet. This year, there are some key moments to expand and release.
Kait is looking forward to Jupiter in Aries, a transit that will welcome a lot of truth coming to the surface.
“We've been stewing, brewing, dreaming and scheming,” she says about Jupiter in Pisces. “Now, with Jupiter like popping into Aries, this is a wonderful healing opportunity for all of us and a chance to see how our ego might be like standing in our way and be able to really heal that and then make some magic from that dream.”
Another opportunity to clarify your dream is to work with the Taurus/Scorpio eclipses, especially the Scorpio Lunar Eclipse. “It’s going to be a horrid detox for our souls.” We can’t neglect that this transit is conjunct our millennial natal Pluto. “It’s time to drain the swamp,” Kait explains. Eclipses are an invitation to get in alignment with your true path, including challenges.
In this duality, I am reminded of the potency of magic when we allow ourselves to embrace not only the cosmic shifts but also the internal shifts that are calling for combustion and purging.
It’s one thing to be happy, but it’s another to surrender to the flow of life. It’s all temporary.
The minute when we allow ourselves to surrender to the moment, we begin to understand authenticity in our waking life. Staying true to our path can be a conflict, but it can also bring peace.
